Cincygroove.com is very proud to be celebrating its 4 year anniversary on 11/18 at The Madison Theater in Covington, KY.  Music for the evening will be provided by
headliner ekoostik hookah and local openers Hickory Robot and Carole Walker.  In the spirit of the upcoming Thanksgiving season, Cincy Groove will also be holding a canned
food drive and a winter clothing drive.  Canned food will benefit the Freestore Foodbank and winter clothing will benefit St Vincent DePaul. Keep in mind these food
items are ALWAYS needed: canned meat products (tuna, chicken, ham, spaghetti with meatballs, chili with meat and beans, beef stew, beans and wieners, etc.) peanut
butter, canned vegetables and fruits. Other non-perishable items needed include: canned soups, macaroni and cheese and personal care items (soap, shampoo, deodorant,
toothpaste/brush, feminine hygiene products, disposable diapers).  Please, no glass items.  With the cold weather fast approaching any type of new/gently used winter
clothing would be preferable, but any clothes you don’t need anymore would be appreciated.

ekoostik hookah
One of the most original and energetic acts around today, ekoostik hookah is the nucleus of a family drawn to its lucid, improvisational treatment of psychedelic rock
’n’ roll, blues, funk, jazz and bluegrass layered with rich harmonies. Born early in 1991  in a smoky basement bar, the band has been continually evolving, cultivating
a sound that has perked the ears of contemporaries and attracted fans who travel miles  to hear them play.  ekoostik hookah has played in more than 30 states at venues
including New York’s Wetlands Preserve, Chicago’s House of Blues, Cleveland’s Nautica Stage, Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse, Boulder’s Fox Theater, Columbus’ Promowest
Pavilion, Cleveland’s House of Blues, LA’s Whiskey a Go-Go and San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall. In 1997 hookah was invited to play at the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame. ekoostik hookah played its first international shows in June 1999 in Negril, Jamaica. Since then the band has traveled back to Jamaica (in 2002), to the
Netherlands in 2003 and back to Jamaica in 2006, bringing their fans along each time.  They are also the proud host to one of the longest running music festivals,
hookahville, which takes place every Memorial and Labor Day weekends since 1994.  They just finished the 36th installment of the festival, welcoming Little Feat and
the Chris Robinson Brotherhood.

Hickory Robot
Hickory Robot’s music can be described as Americana, broad in influences, unique in style. Since their formation in the Spring of 2008 they’ve formed a large and
diverse fan base in the Greater Cincinnati area, drawn to their powerful and dynamic live show. The band is comprised of Lauren Schloemer (violin, vocals); Jim Pelz
(guitar, vocals); Scott Carnder (mandolin, vocals), and Mike Georgin (bass, vocals).

In June of 2010 they released Firefly, their debut CD composed of 13 original songs. Mike Breen reviewed it in the July 6 issue of Citybeat Magazine.

“Firefly would be a stunning release by a veteran band; the fact that Hickory Robot is such a new group (though members have veteran experience) makes it all the more
astounding. There’s a remarkable diversity in the four-piece’s repertoire, thanks at least in part to the members’ multi-instrumentalist skills (fiddle, bass, guitar
and mandolin are the core tools, but they also color with everything from banjo to cello to washboard). While there’s a strong traditional anchor to the band’s sound,
the singular songwriting talents…give it a contemporary element and help the band standout from its peers.

Carole Walker
Cincinnati native Carole Walker has performed as a solo singer songwriter, in a duet (The Walker Project), as the lead singer of a national touring band
(Heavy Weather), and as a cast member in local  musical theater productions. Carole Walker’s songwriting goes far beyond convention. She weaves her lyrics into a
tapestry of spoken word, poems, and heartfelt songs  all wrapped in her warm powerful voice. Carole is recoding new songs for a September release tentatively titled
“Simple Creatures” and is currently playing on stages in Cincinnati and Columbus, OH.
